| The historic town of Eyemouth lies just five miles from the Scotland/England
border and is situated at the mouth of the River Eye which provides a natural
harbour and a beautiful sandy beache. Fishermen have been fishing at Eyemouth
from the 13th century and today the harbour is still a lively, bustling place
with its colourful fishing boats and yachts. The Scottish Borders provides some
of the best sea angling in the UK. Eyemouth has the largest fishing fleet in the
South of Scotland and with the clear waters and the magnificent coastal scenery
as a backdrop, who could ask for more!

Eyemouth has had its fair share of disasters with the famous east coast fishing
disaster of 1881 when 189 fishermen were lost at sea,
129 of those from Eyemouth
itself. The local museum is worth a visit, it illustrates the history of the town and
what life was like in the 'olden days'. There is a magnificent tapestry in the
museum which commemorates the fishing disaster and the great loss of life. The
museum also doubles as a Tourist Information Centre and has many interesting
leaflets including a town trail and a leaflet on the many beautiful coastal
walks from Eyemouth along the Berwickshire Coast. |
| Gunsgreen House is a beautiful Georgian building on the edge of the harbour. The
basement area has been recently refurbished and currently offers facilities for
visiting yachtsmen and boat owners including showers, toilets, kitchen and
waiting areas. Eyemouth is now a welcome haven for all boat owners sailing along
the East coast with the new facilites including the
new fishmarket, the new pontoon, and the new deep water harbour basin which
has been designed to be accessible at all times, regardless of the tide.

If you
like golf, you must pay a visit to Eyemouth Golf Club - it is the only
coastal 18 hole golf course in the Freedom of the Fairways and boasts a
beautiful scenic backdrop which would be hard to beat! |

those that enjoy Diving,
Scoutscroft Dive Centre is only 3 miles away at Coldingham. They run
regular diving courses throughout the year, have a retail outlet providing
equipment for sale or hire and provide accommodation on site.

The Seafood Festival offers a weekend of seafood, sea stories, music and
song - all in all a great street party!
July
The Herring Queen Festival - Eyemouth's fishing fleet escorts the
annually chosen Queen
from St. Abbs to Eyemouth. This Festival offers lots of activities
and entertainment for all age groups with interesting stalls.
August
The Lifeboat Gala
October
For the last 2 years Eyemouth has been chosen to host the 'Both Sides of the
Tweed' music Festival which takes place in October.
